A browser-based tool for creating polished item and group thumbnails for ArcGIS Online.

This is a ground-up reinvention of the original ArcGIS Thumbnail Builder by Joshua Tanner, rebuilt with a modern UI framework, expanded features, and a fully client-side architecture.

Features

Thumbnail Types

• Item — 600×400px canvas, the standard ArcGIS Online item thumbnail format
• Group — 400×400px canvas, the square format used for ArcGIS group thumbnails

Canvas Composition

• Title bar — displays your item name along the bottom of the canvas; toggleable
• Sidebar — displays the item category vertically on the right; toggleable
• When the sidebar is hidden the title bar automatically expands to full width
• Background icon re-centres itself when either bar is hidden

Background

Three composited layers, drawn in order beneath the title and sidebar:

1. Image — upload any image (max 500 KB); stored in the browser between sessions
2. Icon watermark — choose any Font Awesome icon as a large centred watermark
3. Solid colour fill — always present as the bottom layer; acts as a fallback or tint

Logo

• Upload an image (PNG with transparency recommended), or
• Pick any Font Awesome icon with a custom colour

Colours & Palettes

• Individual colour pickers for every canvas element (canvas background, background icon, title background, title text, sidebar background, sidebar text, logo icon)
• ColorBrewer palette selector — choose from 35 named palettes (Diverging, Qualitative, Sequential) which populate the swatch row across all colour pickers

Themes

• Settings are automatically saved to `localStorage` and restored on your next visit
• Export Theme — download all colour settings and the background image as a `.json` file
• Import Theme — load a previously exported theme file and apply it instantly

Icons

• Full Font Awesome 7.2.0 Free solid icon set (1,422 icons) available for both logo and background watermark
• Searchable icon picker modal
